CBA Wins Eastern States and Alex Kemp Trophy

The Bronx, NY - CBA traveled to the Manhattan Invite to take on the Eastern States Championship. The boys had a convincing victory to take home the win and the Alex Kemp Trophy. The 47 point win over nationally ranked Bishop Hendricken was a tremendous win. The team ran the 3rd fastest team average in course history with a 12:41.5. Luke Hnatt '26 and Gavin Schmitt '27 finished 4th and 8th in astounding times of 12:19 and 12:28. Sean Galvin '26 had a breakout race as CBA's 3rd in 12:44 and Wyatt Falkowski '26 and Ryan Collins '26 rounded the scoring 5.
The team won The Alex Kemp '24 Trophy with the win. Alex was a member of the 2022 and 2023 team wins at the Eastern States. He died tragically in January. In honor of Alex's dedication to his team and his amazing success at the Manhattan Invite, meet management named the trophy in his honor. The boys shared the stage with the Kemp family, Nicole, Daniel and Max, to receive the trophy.
The win marked the 4th win in a row at the Eastern States. Since 1952's inaugural meet no team had won 4 team titles in a row. CBA won 3 in a row twice ('91-'93 and '11-'13) and Paul IV once ('91-'93). See the full list of winners here. The win also marked the 21st victory in program history, a meet record.
Individually, Hnatt and G. Schmitt added themselves to CBA's top 10 at VCP. Luke's time of 12:19 is 2nd best in CBA history and a senior record. He ran 23 second faster than last year. Gavin's time is #6 in CBA history and the 3rd best junior of all time. He ran 19 seconds faster than last year.
